NEW ORLEANS, La. (1/17/18) – Arkansas State track and field sprinter Jaylen Bacon broke his own school record in the 200 meter dash last weekend and was named Sun Belt Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.    

Bacon opened his indoor campaign by improving upon his own school record in the 200-meter dash and claiming three individual championships in the first two meets. At the Kickoff Klassic back in December, Bacon ran in the 400-meter dash and cruised to victory with a time of 48.39 seconds. Last weekend at the Kentucky Invite, Bacon won the 200m dash with a time of 21.14 seconds, bettering his previous school record of 21.16. He also won the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 6.66 seconds in the final.

Bacon ranks fifth nationally in the 60m dash (6.65 seconds), seventh (21.14 seconds) in the 200m dash and 14th in the 400m dash (47.63 seconds converted). He leads the conference in 60-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dash.  

A-State heads to Birmingham, Ala., this weekend for the Samford Invitational. The meet gets underway Friday, January 19. The Red Wolves then host their second indoor meet at First National Bank Arena Jan. 26-27.
