LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (1/22/10) - The Little Rock Touchdown Club has announced that senior defensive end Alex Carrington, a 2009 All-Sun Belt Conference first team selection, was chosen as its Arkansas State Player of the Year for the second consecutive year and will be honored at its annual banquet Feb. 15.
Carrington, the 2008 Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, finished the season with nine sacks that tied the most this season and the eighth most all-time by an SBC player. He completed his career with 21.5 sacks for the second most ever by an ASU player and the fourth most in Sun Belt history. Carrington also recorded a team-high 14.5 sacks in 2009, which was the third most in the league.
The Tupelo, Miss. native graduated in Dec. 2009 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology.
The Little Rock Touchdown Club awards banquet will be held at the Embassy Suites hotel in Little Rock, where each award winner will have an opportunity to speak. In addition to all the college awards, the LRTDC will also honor players and coaches of the year in each high school classification.
