DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (10/6/17) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team shot an opening-round 319 Friday at the Xavier Invitational, ending the 54-hole tournament’s first day tied for sixth place among eight teams.

A-State ended the opening round 31 over par, but just six strokes back from fifth-place South Alabama (+25). The team is also just seven strokes back from fourth-place Xavier (+24). Daytona State and Stetson are currently tied for first place after both shot a 295.

The Red Wolves were paced by junior Beth Ann Compton, who carded a 74 to lead the team. Compton finished the day tied for seventh on the leaderboard out of 48 total players. Senior Sarah Childers also ended the day among the top-20 individual players, turning in a first round score of 78 that placed her in a tie for 20th.

Also competing for Arkansas State, junior Aracelly Jimenez Rios finished the day tied for 25th place with an 80. Sophomore Marisa Marquez finished her day in 41st place with a score of 87, while sophomore Grayson Gladden carded an 89 and is tied for 42nd place heading into the second round of play.

The Xavier Invitational will continue with the second round Saturday, Oct. 7, followed by the third-and-final round Sunday, Oct. 8.
