DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (10/7/17) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team shot a second-round 312 Saturday at the Xavier Invitational, giving it a combined 631 and placing it sixth among eight teams through the three-day tournament’s first 36 holes played.

Arkansas State ended the first round tied for sixth place after posting a 319, and finished the second round in sole possession of sixth after cutting seven strokes off that total.

The Red Wolves broke their previous tie with Florida Atlantic and tied fifth-place Xavier’s second round score. A-State finds itself seven strokes behind Xavier and 14 behind fourth-place South Alabama heading into tomorrow’s final round.

Three A-State players ended the day among the top-25 individual players, including Beth Ann Compton in a tie for 10th place. Compton carded a 74 and 78 for the first and second rounds, respectively, and has a combined 152 score.

Following Compton for the Red Wolves, junior Aracelly Jimenez Rios began play with an 80 before posting a 74 today to finish in sole possession of 16th place with a combined 154. Senior Sarah Childers is currently tied for 22nd place with a combined 157 that includes a first-round 78 and second-round 79.

Also competing for Arkansas State, sophomore Marisa Marquez is tied for 40th place with a 168 (87-81) and sophomore Grayson Gladden is in 42nd place with a 170 (89-81).

The Xavier Invitational will conclude Sunday, Oct. 8, with the third-and-final round.
