KYLE, Texas (02/12/18) – Senior Sarah Childers and junior Aracelly Jimenez Rios both finished the Texas State Invitational’s first round Monday tied for 23rd place, leading the Arkansas State women’s golf team as it shot a 307 to place in eighth among 17 teams.

The Red Wolves ended the first 18 holes only one stroke behind Lamar and UTEP and within seven strokes of UT San Antonio. Houston Baptist led the field with a 294, while Central Arkansas stood second with a 297. The tournament’s second round of play wasn’t completed due to a delayed start and darkness.

Junior Beth Ann Compton completed the first round tied for 31st place after carding a 77, while sophomore Grayson Gladden recorded a 78 to tie for 43rd. Freshman Maria Jose Atristain Vega rounded out the team scoring by registering a first-round 86 to finish in 89th place heading into tomorrow’s action.

The Texas State Invitational will continue Tuesday with the completion of the second round and will be immediately followed by the third-and-final round.
