JONESBORO, Ark. (10/26/17) – The third-ranked Arkansas State women’s bowling squad is set to begin the 2017-18 season at McKendree’s Brunswick Bearcat Open Oct. 27-29 at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill.
The tournament begins at 9:40 a.m. Friday morning with five, five-game Baker matches before resuming Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with five traditional team matches. Combined results will determine the seeding for Sunday’s best-of-seven Baker format championship tournament, which will get underway at 8:30 a.m. that morning.
The field is stacked for the event being hosted by defending National Champion and No. 1 McKendree with all eight teams from last season’s NCAA Tournament participating in the event along with the Bearcats and No. 3 Red Wolves including No. 2 Nebraska, No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Sam Houston State, No. 6 Stephen F. Austin, No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore, and No. 8 Fairleigh Dickinson.
All in all, 16 ranked teams are at the competition with No. 10 Central Missouri, No. 11 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 13 Monmouth, No. 18 North Carolina A&T, No. 19 UAB, No.20 Prairie View A&M, No. 21 St. Francis College Brooklyn, and No. 24 Youngstown State also set to compete. Lincoln Memorial University, Saint Francis University (Pa.), Maryville University, Drury University, Aurora University, Valparaiso, North Central College, and Lincoln University (Mo.) round out the field.
A-State is set to return reigning NTCA Division I Player of the Year Jordan Richard along with seniors Haley Richard and Jadee Scott-Jones, who were Second-Team and Third-Team All-American selections, respectively, a season ago. All in all, the Red Wolves return six letterwinners and welcome two freshmen to the team.
Last season the Red Wolves registered an 86-38 record and made their 10th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, finishing in a tie for fifth place.
