PEARLAND, Texas (4/16/19) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team closed play Tuesday at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, shooting a final-round 288 at the Golfcrest Country Club to give it a combined 871 total as it finished in fifth place out of 14 teams.


The Red Wolves were led by three players finishing among the top-25 individuals, including junior Zan Luka Stirn in a tie for second place.  The tournament’s last day saw A-State post its best team score after shooting a 289 and 294 for the first and second rounds, respectively.


Arkansas State finished only one stroke behind Texas State and UT Arlington, which tied for third place.  Sam Houston State claimed the championship with an 862, while UTSA took runner-up honors with an 868.


Stirn collected his sixth top-three finish of the season by posting a combined 212 that included a first-round 66, the lowest single-round score of the tourney by an A-State player.  He came back to card a 72 for the second 18 holes and wrapped up play today with a 74.


Julien Sale followed Stirn with an 11th-place showing after turning in a combined 215 (74-73-68), giving him seven top-15 outings this year.  Luka Naglic also placed among the top-25 leaders for the Red Wolves, finishing 21st with a 219 (74-72-73).


Also competing for A-State, Matthew Cole finished tied for 47th place with a 226 (76-77-73) and Joel Wendin 66th with a 229 (75-77-77).


The Red Wolves will next compete at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, set to begin Sunday, April 21, in Miramar Beach, Fla.
