JONESBORO, Ark. (4/9/12) – The Arkansas State
tennis team fell to Lamar 4-3 in a nonconference match Monday morning at Allen
Park.
ASU (9-8) freshman Tamara Slijepcevic won her
seventh straight match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Alicia Porte in the No. 2
singles match. Slijepcevic is now 14-2 on the year and finished Sun Belt
Conference play with a 6-0 record.
In other singles action Biljana Miloshevska
earned a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(7-5) victory over Natalia Mayagoitia in the No. 4
singles match, while Ioana Teu earned a 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 victory in the No. 5
match.
In the No. 1 singles match ASU freshman Mariana
Rong dropped a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 decision to Carolina Salas, while Janie Nowland
suffered a 6-3, 7-6 loss to Carolina Maso in the No. 3 match. In the No. 6
match senior Ceara Howey lost to Helene Czudek 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles competition Salas and Porte defeated
Rong and Teu 8-1 in the No. 1 match, while Nowland and Howey earned an 8-3 over Mayagoitia and Pennesi in the No. 2 match. In the No. 3 match Mso and Czudek
defeated Slijepcevic and Miloshevska 8-4.
The Red Wolves will return to the courts Friday,
April 13 for a match against Texas-El Paso at Allen Park. First serve is set
for Noon.
