Red Wolves Add Illinois JC Pitcher Brad Allen

JONESBORO, Ark. (6/30/09) ? Arkansas State Head Coach Tommy Raffo announced Tuesday that Elgin (Ill.) Community College right-hander Brad Allen has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball career at ASU.

Allen (6-4, 215 pounds) earned All-Conference, All-Region and Academic All-Conference honors in 2009, leading the Spartans to a 38-18 record and a berth in the NJCAA Division II Sectional finals.  He led ECC with 64 strikeouts on the season, working a team-high 62 innings.  Allen posted a 6-2 record on the year with an ERA of 3.43 while playing under head coach Bill Angelo.  During his freshman season, he played at Northern Illinois University, where he appeared in five games.

“Brad will be a valuable addition to our pitching staff at Arkansas State,” said ASU pitching coach Justin Meccage.  “He is a strong, physical right-hander who brings Division I experience along with success at the junior college level.  We expect him to make an immediate impact in the Red Wolves' pitching rotation.”

Allen is currently pitching for the Madison Mallards in the Northwoods League, where he holds an ERA of 2.19 through nine appearances.  He has fanned 12 batters in 20.2 innings of work this summer.

Allen prepped at Geneva (Ill.) High School, where he earned Western Sun Conference MVP honors following a senior season in which he struck out 115 batters against just 20 walks and 54 hits in 78 innings of work, compiling an ERA of 1.80 along the way.

The son of Brian and Kelly Allen, Brad plans to major in Business at Arkansas State.
